Serving Our First Responders Through Building Live Fire Facilities

A different type of Project

We don’t usually build structures to be intentionally set on fire, but this project is a bit different.

We have begun a really unique project in Nelson County for the Wintergreen Fire and Rescue in Nellysford, Virginia.  What we call the “Burn Building” is a 34’ x 28’, two-story, concrete structure for live fire training exercises.

This building is being constructed using CMU, concrete, special high temp thermal lining and fire brick to be able to withstand the high temperatures from the fires being started inside this building. Temperatures inside this building can reach over 1000 degrees Fahrenheit without sustaining damage.

Burn Building Blueprint

The structure will have multiple rooms, stairs, windows and doors to help firefighters train in numerous scenarios including the use of a standpipe so firefighters can hook up a hose inside the building.  It will also have repelling anchors on the roof for repelling exercises as well as a ventilation hatch to practice entering the building from the roof. Lastly, a safe room will be installed containing temperature gauges to record temperatures in all the different rooms in the structure.

Building with a Purpose

While this is a small structure, it is highly sophisticated. It will be able to withstand repeated fires and last decades!  We are honored to be constructing this new fire training facility for the Wintergreen Fire and Rescue that will train not only the Wintergreen Fire and Rescue but will serve all the firefighters in Nelson County.
