Blueprint to Reality: Progress at Harrisonburg City Public Works Site

PROJECT NEARS COMPLETION

Welcome back to the Harrisonburg City Public Works site with Harman superintendent JT Lam. Significant progress has been made since the last update, and the project is steadily moving towards completion.

Exterior Advancements

In recent months, the exterior of the building has seen substantial advancements. The concrete truck and pump truck have finished their tasks, and the building is now fully clad in Hardie siding, offering both durability and visual appeal. The main entrance and the primary staircase leading to the lobby are fully framed and taking shape on the front side of the building.

Interior Developments

Inside, the main entrance area is fully framed, with electrical, mechanical, and plumbing rough-ins completed and inspected. The walls are insulated, and sheetrock installation is underway. The team aims to begin painting the walls within the next week.

Walking through the main corridor, several offices and meeting rooms are in place. The larger of the meeting rooms will feature a folding partition for flexible space usage, ideal for training sessions and events.

Police Section

Further south, the police section is taking shape. This area includes dedicated offices, a receptionist area, restrooms, and a separate entrance, ensuring privacy and functionality for the police department.

Second Floor Overview

On the second floor, the concrete deck is complete, and insulation is being added between the trusses. After insulating, a layer of sheetrock will be installed before interior framing begins. The second-floor elevator lobby features extensive glass, creating a bright and welcoming space. Currently, this area is used for material access and waste removal, enhancing safety and efficiency on-site.

Future Plans

Upon completion of the new facility, the old existing structure will be demolished and regraded to create a new parking lot for the Public Works building. While a few more months of work remain, the project is progressing well. Working on this project close to home has been rewarding, and Harman Construction is grateful for the excellent team of subcontractors who have contributed to the project’s success. Harrisonburg City Public Works has been an outstanding client, and Harman Construction has thoroughly enjoyed this collaboration.

Stay tuned for more updates as the project nears completion!
